THE SURATEE SUNNI VOHRA MUSLIM EDUCATION SOCIETY

Before 1947, Late Haji Muhammad Dawji Dadabhai during his stay at Culcatta, was impressed with the activities of the Memon Welfare Society for their community and decided to do something for our community. First discussion was done in marriage function of Ibrahim Muhammad Patel at Bardoli, then after he came to Surat and he had taken views and opinions of Dr. Kazi, Mr. Unia, Mr. Ibrahim Patel, Ahmed Seth Botawala etc. about possibility of initiating such activities for our community. On 02-03-1947, an informal meeting was held at Kosamba on invitation of Mr. Ibrahim Patel in which total 86 people were present. On 08-06-1947, a formal meeting was held at Hathuran for discussion about constitution of the Suratee Sunni Vohra Muslim Education Society in which 228 people were present.

For the time being it was also decided to give priority to the education among the several aims and objects of th trust was provisions of scholarships for higher studies. In the first year scholarship to the tune of Rs. 5005/- were awarded and gradually with the awareness for the education developed and more and more demands arose with the grace of Almighty Allah the financial support of our farmers the need was satisfied. Late Dadabhai himself went to Burmah and South Africa to pursue the matter and for active involvement. Alhamdulillah the funds started to flow and the amount also continued to increase, the horizon of its activities also widened.
